Arthrodesis
Arthrodesis can be an effective salvage procedure for joint luxations and end stage osteoarthritis. However it is a significant surgical undertaking and successful arthrodesis requires you to be good at decision-making and effective with your surgical technique. This highly practical one day course is designed to help you to develop your decision-making and practical skills and to get better results with common arthrodesis surgeries. You’ll learn techniques in extensive hands-on practical surgery sessions with guidance from an expert and approachable tutor.
Course Overview:
A one-day practical course designed for small animal surgeons with prior experience of bone plating who want to learn how to execute an effective arthrodesis and avoid complications. We cover decision making for clinical cases, surgical techniques with hands on experience and the management of complications. Led by Dr Darren Carwardine, this practical training day combines short lectures, case discussions and plenty of wet lab experience.

– How to choose between a partial and a complete arthrodesis
– How to choose the right implant for the case
– How to reduce complications during and after an arthrodesis
– The indications for arthrodesis of the elbow, shoulder and stifle
Who the course is for:
This course is ideal for veterinary surgeons who have prior experience with fracture repairs and other joint surgeries but would like to learn how to perform some of the common joint arthrodesis procedures. It is also suitable for clinicians who already perform these procedures but would like to improve their surgical technique and learn how to avoid complications.
