This course is suitable for you if you‘re a general practitioner who’s got to grips with the basics of abdominal ultrasound, including setting up the machine and the basic approach to the larger abdominal organs. This one day course will consist of a small number of lectures and hands on practical sessions with the guidance of the course tutors.

What you’ll learn:

  • Gain improved confidence on evaluating organs such as the gastrointestinal and urinary tract, focusing on difficult areas like the pylorus and urinary bladder trigone and performing a detailed evaluation of the wall of the stomach and intestine
  • A systematic approach to the evaluation of the adrenal glands and pancreas, with the aim to become familiar with the anatomical landmarks used to find these small organs and to be able to differentiate normal appearance from pathological changes
  • Identification of the major abdominal lymph nodes using the adequate anatomical landmarks and being able to differentiate normal appearance from pathological changes affecting these structures
  • Introduction to the identification of portosystemic shunts with ultrasound
  • Introduction to tissue sampling techniques, focusing on performing ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates

Course Tutor: Sergio Guilherme LMV MRCVS
