Dentistry is one of the most performed surgeries in general practice, and yet practical experience is very difficult for you to gain as a new or recent graduate. Come on this highly practical course and we’ll bridge the gap between theory and practice, boosting your confidence and skills in essential small animal dentistry procedures.

You’ll have access to lecture notes and videos online before the practical day so that you have the key theory and step by step guides to carrying out procedures. Get highly practical tips on diagnosis and performing techniques, including extractions, local anaesthesia, dental X Rays and how to deal calmly and effectively with complications.

Once you’ve completed your online theory you’ll come to our dedicated Training Centre for a full day of hands-on practical sessions. Enjoy full tutor support in the practical wet lab sessions as you develop your skills. Ask all the questions you like of our experienced and approachable tutors, who have both spent considerable time in first opinion practice before starting to specialise.

What you’ll learn:

  •  Which teeth need extracting, when and how to decide
  •  How to take diagnostic dental X Rays and how to interpret them
  •  How to perform local anaesthesthetic blocks confidently and safely
  •  Closed extraction techniques and highly practical tips
  •  Open extraction techniques and tips for better outcomes
  •  What to do when a root tip breaks
  •  Feline-specific techniques and practical tips
  •  Coronectomy (“crown amputation”) techniques for tooth resorption
  • Complete your learning and get your CPD Certificate for 15 Hours of CPD.

At the end of the course we aim to have you leaving inspired, equipped to manage your small animal dentistry patients in practice, and confident that you can make your own decisions while also knowing when to seek help and support with your patients.

Course Tutors:

Charlie Tewson BVetMed MRCVS GPCert (SADen&OS), dentistry resident at The Ralph

Valentina Ferrarese DVM MRCVS GPCert (SAS), dentistry resident at The Ralph

You’ll need to complete the online learning for this course before the practical session. This is so that you are familiar with the theory and the techniques that you’ll be carrying out in the practical sessions. We’ve found that delegates get much more from the practical sessions with this format, and you will also have more time for hands-on practice.  We’ll email you access details for your online resources several weeks prior to your attendance session date.
