Cytology and Haematology for Veterinary Nurses

Accurately diagnosing disease in your practice’s lab can often revolve around cytology and haematology. Nurses play a vital role in handling and analysing these diagnostic samples and tests, both those done ‘in house’ as well as those referred on. It all starts though with getting a good sample, smooth prep and then having a look to inform clinical decision making in a matter of minutes, even while you wait for the analyser to do its thing. It may inform therapy and provide accurate monitoring, without the need for expensive tests or imaging, although these are often useful too! If you want to get some cells onto a slide and know what to look for, this course is for you.

What you’ll learn:

  • Sample prep and artefacts – can we interpret the result?
  • Haematology Analysers – principles and pitfalls
  • Bloods Smears – quick and easy checks
  • Cytology of Inflammation and Infection – skin & effusions
  • Extensive Imagery with practical case examples for illustration and practise
