Session 1 – Capnography – Monitoring Ventilation in real-time
Wednesday 15th July 2026

Topics include:
Describing the basic principles of capnography and the physiological factors affecting ETCO₂.
Interpreting normal and abnormal capnogram waveforms.
Applying capnography to assess ventilation and perfusion.
Identifying and troubleshooting common capnography-related equipment and patient issues in general practice.


Session 2 – Pulse Oximetry and Basic ECG Interpretation
Wednesday 29th July 2026

Topics include:
Understanding how pulse oximetry works and what SpO₂ reflects clinically.
Interpreting pulse oximetry readings and recognise limitations and artefacts.
Understanding the basic principles of the ECG.
Recognising common ECG abnormalities under anaesthesia and when to intervene.


Session 3 – Blood Pressure Monitoring & Management of Hypotension
Wednesday 12th August 2026

Topics include:
Explaining the importance of blood pressure monitoring during anaesthesia.
Interpreting non-invasive blood pressure measurements and understanding the physiological principles that affect it.
Introducing invasive blood pressure monitoring techniques.
Recognising hypotension and identifying common causes in veterinary patients.
Implementing a stepwise, practical approach to managing hypotension in general practice.

This Mini Series is suitable for vets working in general small animal practice who want to get to grips with patient monitoring.
