This practical, highly clinically relevant, two day course is targeted at veterinary surgeons with some surgical experience who are aiming to develop their skills in joint surgery of the thoracic and pelvic limbs.
The course will consist of a combination of lectures, case discussions and practicals with use of cadaveric specimens. Practical exercises will include:
- Arthrocentesis
- Femoral head and neck ostectomy
- Management of hip luxation
- Extra-capsular stabilisation for cranial cruciate ligament deficiency
- Treatment of medial patellar luxation
- Shoulder arthrotomy for OCD
The course will be focused on conditions and practical techniques that can be applied to cases seen commonly in practice, to allow participants to build their confidence and genuinely improve clinical outcomes in their cases.
Learning objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Confidently examine patients being presented with lameness and joint diseases, and communicate key points clearly to owners.
- Plan, perform and interpret diagnostic investigations
- Perform common articular surgical procedures
- Recognise and manage postoperative complications
