Anaesthetic Complications – Things That Go Wrong and How We Deal With Them
This session will include how to plan cases to ensure anaesthetic complications are minimised and will cover:
- Equipment failure and how to deal with it
- Cardiovascular complications including hypotension, hypertension, haemorrhage, bradycardia, tachycardia and arrhythmias
- Respiratory system complication including; aspiration and regurgitation, apnoea, airway obstruction, laryngospasm, hypoxia, hypoxaemia, hypo and hyper capnoea, hypo and hyperventilation and respiratory arrest
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – What To Do When Things Go Really Wrong
This session will cover:
- How to recognise imminent arrest
- Basic life support – airway, ventilation and compressions
- Monitoring the ECG – arrest rhythms and how it changes the plan
- Drugs – which drugs do we use in CPR, when and why?
- Electrical cardioversion
- Fluid therapy in CPR
- The Recover guidelines for CPR
- How to properly care for the resuscitated patient
