Programme
Canine cardiology case challenges
This will be an interactive case-based session. The session will be very clinically focused and is designed to be particularly relevant to veterinary surgeons in general small animal practice. At the end of this session, participants should feel more confident dealing with canine cardiac patients.
What you’ll learn:
- Examples of both congenital and acquired canine cardiac disease will be covered
- This session will cover the diagnosis and the management of both preclinical heart disease, as well as patients with congestive heart failure
- The issue of loop diuretic resistance and the role of sequential nephron blockade in patients with refractory congestive heart failure will be discussed
Feline cardiology case challenges
This will be an interactive case-based session. The session will be very clinically focused and is designed to be particularly relevant to veterinary surgeons in general small animal practice. At the end of this session, participants should feel more confident dealing with feline cardiac patients.
What you’ll learn:
- Examples of both congenital and acquired feline cardiac disease will be covered
- This session will cover the diagnosis and the management of both preclinical heart disease, as well as patients with congestive heart failure
- Complications such as feline arterial thromboembolism will be discussed
Cardiac arrhythmia case challenges
This will be an interactive case-based session. The session will be very clinically focused and is designed to be particularly relevant to veterinary surgeons in general small animal practice. At the end of this session, participants should feel more confident recognising and managing cardiac arrhythmias encountered in small animal practice.
What you’ll learn:
- This session will cover clinical examples of both tachyarrhythmias and bradyarrhythmias in canine and feline patients
- The case studies will include examples of arrhythmias typically associated with underlying primary heart disease, as well as those most commonly encountered in patients with systemic disease
- Using these clinical case examples, practical guidance will be given to help participants assess the clinical significance of the specific arrhythmia and to choose appropriate antiarrhythmic treatment when necessary
