Session 1
Techniques for initial assessment of the emergency patient
What you’ll learn:
- How to triage patients and make a major body systems evaluation
- How to characterise respiratory distress, including patient side ultrasound assessment
- Emergency stabilisation of patients with respiratory distress
- Options for vascular access
Emergency diagnostic procedures
What you’ll learn:
- How to identify and collect abdominal fluid
- Abdominal fluid analysis in practice
- Selection and interpretation of labwork in the emergency clinic including blood smear evaluation
- Indications for and options for sampling airways
Emergency therapeutic procedures
What you’ll learn:
- How to deal with pleural space disease
- Options to be considered when transfusing patients
- Essential of cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Practical techniques for dealing with toxicity cases
- Practical tips for dealing with a variety of other emergency conditions, including GDV, pericardial effusion, and feline urethral obstruction
