Programme
Session 1
Farm Ruminants
In the first session we will cover the following, Parturition which will included Caesarean section. The recumbent animal which will include; bloat, abdominal catastrophy, acute respiratory conditions and acute toxicity .Endo and ectoparasites which will include skin conditions. Sedation, analgesia, anaesthesia, castration and dehorning, and euthanasia.
At the end of the webinar you as a practitioner will:
- Be competent to advise on all the problems related to the female ruminant and be able to perform a caesarean section.
- Be familiar with all acute emergencies in farm ruminants.
- Be able to advise on endo and ectoparasites, together with diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases
- Be able to carry out, sedation, analgesia and anaesthesia in farm ruminants
- Be happy to carry out castration and dehorning procedures
Camelid Medicine and surgery
In the second session we will cover the following,Basic animal husbandry and handling. Tooth problems and the alimentary system which will include clostridial disease, endoparasites and colic. The female and problems with parturition including caesarean section and problems post parturition. Sedation, analgesia, anaesthesia and castration, and euthanasia. Skin problems.
At the end of the webinar you as a practitioner will:
- Be happy with camelid owners and their animals
- Be familiar with dental problems, clostridial disease and endo parasites so that you will understand when animals with colic require referral
- Be competent to advise on female problems and be able to perform a caesarean section
- Be able to carry out, sedation, analgesia, anaesthesia and castration in this species
- Be competent to diagnose and treat dermatological conditions
Pigs and Poultry
In the final session we will look at Basic animal husbandry and handling of small holder and pet pigs. Diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions in pigs. Sedation, analgesia, anaesthesia and euthanasia in pigs. Surgical procedures in pigs including castration and caesarean section. Basic animal husbandry and handling of poultry, Diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting poultry.
At the end of the webinar you as a practitioner will:
- Be happy to deal with not only the pet and smallholder pig but also their owners
- Be competent in dealing with medical and surgical conditions of pigs
- Be familiar with all aspects of poultry management
- Be competent in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions occurring in poultry
