Session 3

Surgery of the Palate and Reconstructive Surgery of the Head

The most common indications for surgery of the palate are cleft palate repair and oronasal fistulas. Surgery of the palate can be challenging and prone to failure. This session will cover a variety of techniques to help manage defects of the palate.
Tumours of the head and neck are relatively common and are often best managed by surgical resection. However the anatomy of the head is complex and both resection and reconstruction can be challenging. This session will help understand how to perform these surgeries with practical hints and tips.

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand the principles of surgery of the palate
  • How to perform cleft palate repair
  • Understand the principle of cancer resection and reconstructive procedures including subdermal plexus and axial pattern flaps.
