Session 1: Monday 5th August

Shoulder anatomy and biomech

This 3 part comprehensive course provides a detailed insight into shoulder arthroplasty for physiotherapists and rehabilitation therapists. Session one will dig deep into the anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder joint

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand the intricate anatomy of the shoulder joint, ACJ, SCJ, Scapulothoracic joint, glenohumeral, muscle to provide a foundational knowledge
  • Analyze the biomechanics of the shoulder joint, including its range of motion, stability mechanisms, and functional movements, in order to comprehend the physiological principles underlying common shoulder injuries, rehabilitation protocols, and preventive strategies.
Session 2 Monday 12th August

Pre-op assessment , Types of shoulder arthroplasties: Total, hemi reverse. Surgical approaches

Session two is designed towards assessment of pre-operative surgical evaluation, and explore different types of arthroplasty techniques including full, hemi, and reverse shoulder replacements.

What you’ll learn:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments for patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty, including medical history review, physical examination, and diagnostic imaging interpretation, to optimize patient selection, identify potential risk factors
  • Differentiate between various types of shoulder arthroplasties, such as total, hemiarthroplasty, and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, by comprehensively understanding their indications, surgical techniques, expected outcomes, and potential complications, facilitating informed decision-making and treatment planning in clinical practice.
Session 3: Monday 19th August

Rehab strategies , protocols; case study

Session 3 will uncover evidence-based rehabilitation strategies through systemic review and discussion of real-life case studies.

What you’ll learn:

  • Develop comprehensive rehabilitation strategies and protocols for patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty, incorporating evidence-based principles of exercise prescription, manual therapy techniques, and functional training to optimize post-operative outcomes, restore shoulder function, and enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Apply rehabilitation principles to a case study involving a patient undergoing shoulder arthroplasty, including assessment of pre-operative status, post-operative management considerations, goal setting, and progression monitoring, to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan addressing individual patient needs and optimizing functional recovery outcomes.
