Advanced Spinal Surgery

Spinal conditions such as intervertebral disc disease, spinal trauma, degenerative lumbosacral stenosis, and congenital anomalies can present significant diagnostic and surgical challenges. While hemilaminectomy and ventral slot procedures remain the primary surgical techniques for disc disease, certain cases may require alternative dorsal approaches, and chronic disc disease may necessitate partial vertebral body removal via lateral corpectomy. Additional complexity arises in cases requiring spinal stabilisation, where precise implant placement is essential to achieve successful outcomes and minimise the risk of complications.
Building on the success of our spinal surgery programme delivered over the past 15 years, we are pleased to offer this advanced 2-day spinal surgery course. The course is designed to enhance decision-making in patient selection, improve surgical planning, and develop practical skills in advanced decompression and stabilisation techniques. Delegates will also gain insight into alternative surgical approaches, implant selection, and application within the vertebral column.Previous attendance at an introductory spinal surgery course is advantageous but not essential. Delivered in a small-group wet lab format, the course provides extensive hands-on experience with personalised supervision and tailored expert instruction.

What you’ll learn:

  • Management strategies for atlantoaxial (AA) subluxation
  • Cervical decompression techniques
  • Surgical management of spinal trauma
  • Decompression and stabilisation techniques for lumbosacral disease
  • Lateral corpectomy techniques for chronic thoracolumbar disc disease
  • Principles of implant selection and vertebral stabilisation
  • Extensive practical wet-lab training with expert guidance
  • Key technical tips and strategies to help avoid serious surgical complications
