Dentistry for Veterinary Nurses

As a veterinary nurse you can play a key role in the management of patients requiring dental, oral and maxillofacial procedures, including educating your clients about optimal oral homecare for their pets. You are allowed to perform many parts of a dental procedure from assessment and documenting your findings for the veterinary surgeon, obtaining intraoral radiographs to provide vital additional diagnostic information, scaling the teeth, as well as all of the perioperative preparation and care of the patient, environment and equipment.

This course will provide you with an overview of perioperative patient management, how to correctly assess the oral cavity and document your findings, the principles of obtaining diagnostic intraoral radiographs, how to scale teeth safely and effectively, how to set up and manage the dental theatre – including identification of instrumentation, correct use of equipment, and how to maintain it.
