Advanced Clinical Programme in Surgical Oncology

Advanced surgical oncology CPD designed to change the way you approach cases in practice

Think beyond the surgery. Develop the way you approach the oncology case.

A structured advanced programme with European Specialist Jonathan Bray, combining expert online teaching and case discussion with two highly practical attendance days.

You can also decide to complete the optional Clinical Impact Portfolio, giving you a structured way to demonstrate how your learning has influenced your clinical reasoning and patient management in practice.

Take your surgical oncology further

Surgical oncology isn’t simply about performing a resection.

Good outcomes depend on understanding tumour behaviour, selecting appropriate investigations, defining treatment goals, planning margins, anticipating reconstruction and recognising when surgery is and isn’t  the right option.

This Advanced Clinical Programme has been designed for experienced clinicians who want to develop that broader surgical oncology mindset and apply it to the cases they see in practice.

You’ll learn with Jonathan Bray MVSc MSc(Clin Onc) PhD DiplECVS MRCVS, European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, combining advanced teaching with realistic cases, discussion, practical application and reflection.Develop your clinical reasoning, test your thinking and use what you’ve learned to make a meaningful difference to the way you manage oncology cases.

The Programme

You’ll work through the online teaching before the attendance course, put the principles into practice during two practical days with Jonathan, and then continue your learning through follow-up discussion and application to your own clinical cases.

The Programme includes:

– Advanced online teaching and case-based learning
– Live opportunities to discuss cases and questions
– Two-day practical attendance course
– Practical surgical oncology planning and techniques
– Follow-up learning and case discussion

 Programme fee: £3,497 + VAT

Practical dates: 10–11 February 2027
CPD Solutions Training Centre, Studley, UK

Online learning begins in January 2027.

What you’ll explore

Through teaching, realistic cases and discussion, you’ll develop your approach to:

– Cancer biology and tumour behaviour
– Investigation and staging
– Treatment planning and clinical decision-making
– Surgical margins
– Common tumour types
– Planning tumour resections
– Reconstruction following oncological surgery
– Local flaps
– Axial pattern flaps
– Free skin grafts
– Deciding when surgery is and isn’t  the right option
– Applying advanced oncology principles to cases in your own practice

 The two-day practical

You’ll spend two days putting the principles into practice through realistic surgical oncology cases.

You’ll work through case planning, tumour resection, surgical margins and reconstruction, considering different approaches and practising reconstructive techniques including local flaps, axial pattern flaps and free skin grafts.

The practical element allows you to move beyond understanding the principles and spend time applying them in a supportive environment, with expert guidance and discussion throughout.

Apply the learning in practice

Take your learning back into your own clinical work and use it to inform the way you assess, plan and manage oncology cases.

Follow-up discussion with Jonathan and the group gives you an opportunity to review cases, ask questions and explore what happens when you put the learning into practice.

Optional Clinical Impact Portfolio

After completing your learning, you can choose to take the next step by submitting a Clinical Impact Portfolio.

Using the CPD Solutions Clinical Impact Framework™, you’ll critically reflect on how the programme has influenced your clinical reasoning and decision-making through a short case log and a 2,000-word reflective case report.

The portfolio is entirely optional and does not need to be selected when you book your programme.

Portfolio submission and assessment fee: £295 + VAT

This includes review, marking and feedback.

Portfolios meeting the required Clinical Impact standard receive CPD Solutions recognition and entry on the Clinical Impact Register.
