Advanced Clinical Programme in Small Animal Cardiology
Advanced cardiology CPD that brings ECGs, echocardiography and clinical decision-making together
Go further with ECGs and echocardiography, and develop the confidence to use your findings in clinical decision-making.
A structured advanced programme with European Specialist Mattia Basili, combining expert online learning with two highly practical attendance days.
You can also decide to complete the optional Clinical Impact Portfolio, giving you a structured way to demonstrate how your learning has influenced your clinical reasoning and patient management in practice.
Move beyond obtaining the measurements
Advanced cardiology is about more than recognising an ECG pattern or obtaining an echocardiographic measurement.
The real value comes from bringing your findings together, understanding what they mean for the patient in front of you and using them to make better-informed clinical decisions.
This Advanced Clinical Programme with Mattia Basili DVM MSc CertAVP(VC) PgCertVPS DipECVIM-CA FHEA MRCVS is designed to help experienced clinicians develop a more structured approach to ECG interpretation, arrhythmia management and echocardiography, and then apply that thinking to their clinical cases.
It’s an opportunity to develop your interpretation, refine your clinical reasoning and put advanced learning into practice
The Programme
You’ll work through the online learning before attending the practical course, spend two days developing your ECG and echocardiography skills with Mattia, and then continue to apply and discuss what you’ve learned afterwards.
The Programme includes:
-Advanced online teaching and case-based learning

-Recognition of arrhythmias
-Clinical significance of ECG findings
-Arrhythmia management
-Echocardiographic image acquisition
-Measurements and interpretation
-Bringing echocardiographic findings together
-Relating your findings to the patient in front of you
-Using ECG and echocardiography to support clinical decision-making
-Applying advanced cardiology learning to cases in your own practice
The two-day practical
You will spend two days developing their practical cardiology skills with Mattia.
Day One focuses on developing your approach to ECG interpretation and the recognition and management of arrhythmias.
Day Two moves into advanced echocardiography, giving you time to develop image acquisition, measurements and interpretation.
The practical days give you the opportunity to consolidate the principles you’ve learned online, develop your skills with specialist guidance and consider how your findings influence real clinical decisions.
Apply the learning in practice
The programme is designed to continue after the formal practical teaching.
You’ll take your learning back into practice and use it while assessing cardiac cases, interpreting investigations and making clinical decisions.
Follow-up discussion gives you the opportunity to explore questions, review cases and consider how your interpretation and decision-making are developing as you apply your learning.
Optional Clinical Impact Portfolio
After completing your learning, you can choose to take the next step by submitting a Clinical Impact Portfolio.
Using the CPD Solutions Clinical Impact Framework™, you’ll critically reflect on how the programme has influenced your clinical reasoning and decision-making through a short case log and a 2,000-word reflective case report.
