Course Overview

The dermatology consultation is one of the most common presentations in general practice. This course is based on a hybrid structure with both seminar and practical elements designed to guide veterinary nurses on how best to utilise their skills and role for dermatology cases. Focus areas of the course includes how to build your toolkit for sample taking and microscopy along with integrating nurse-led dermatology clinics into general practice with the overall aim of improved patient comfort and client education.

Technical Skills
– How to perform common dermatology samples (practical tips & possible pitfalls)
– Preparation of samples (both for internal and external assessment)
– Hands-on microscopy session with a focus on common dermatological findings in practice

Clinical interpretation

– How to integrate technicals skills learnt into your clinic
– How to utilise your role as a veterinary nurse in the dermatology consultation- focus on creating nurse-led dermatology clinics
