Session 1

First responses to presented problem behaviour in dogs

Session one of this webinar series will review the key information required to evaluate the nature and severity of the unwanted behaviour, and how this can be used to identify the most appropriate person to make a referral to. It will also outline the interim first aid advice appropriate to most common situations and the key considerations for ensuring an ongoing interdisciplinary approach.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to conduct an initial assessment of the behaviour presented to determine appropriate next steps
  • How to make a behavioural referral that complies with the veterinary professional codes of conduct
  • Appropriate first aid advice for a range of common problem behaviours
  • Key considerations for ensuring a holistic ongoing approach to addressing the animal’s physical and behaviour needs
Session 2

The effect of diet and neutering on behaviour and its management

Session two will look at our latest understanding of the impact of diet and neutering on behaviour, enabling practice staff to give the most up to date advice.

What you’ll learn:

  • Natural feeding behaviour of the domestic dog
  • How diet and nutrition may impact on behaviour
  • How changes in diet can facilitate behaviour change
  • The effect of reproductive hormones on behaviour
  • How castration and spaying will affect behaviour at different life stages
Session 3

Pheromones, medication and nutraceuticals in canine behaviour modification

Session three will consider the medications, pheromones and nutraceuticals available, their use in a range of common problems and their interaction with assessment and treatment by the Clinical Animal Behaviourist to ensure a holistic outcome.

What you’ll learn:

  • The role of pheromones in canine behaviour prophylaxis and treatment
  • Evidence for nutraceuticals and other AVM-GSL behaviour modification products
  • The indications for use of psychotropic prescription medication
  • The effects of key veterinary psychopharmaceuticals and conditions each is most suited to

“Useful information/theories to use or look at when training/raising my own dog!

“The nutritional section with regards to protein and e-numbers was very useful, I really enjoyed the examples of behaviour issues and what first aid response I can do while awaiting referral.
