Articular injuries and end stage degenerative joint disease are not uncommon in small animal practice. Unfortunately surgical or medical managements directed at preserving joint function are not always effective, meaning an alternative solution may be required in order to salvage limb function. Arthrodesis provides an effective salvage surgical solution for some joints where arthroplasty is not an option. Although most often indicated where other managements fail, arthrodesis at the outset for some injuries may be the better management option. Technically challenging and unforgiving in technique, this mini series will provide information on indications, apparatus selection and surgical techniques for arthrodesis of numerous joints.
