Programme
Session 1
Session 1: Too tired to do anything – deep pain negative post spinal surgery
This session will tell you how to start your acute patient, how much bed rest is needed and when to progress treatments. The initial treatments can begin more quickly than you think but the pace of them on a daily basis is slow. It will take you through a case study over a 2 year period and include detail on the treatments used.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand what cage rest really means for this condition
- Develop an understanding of the application of the different types of treatments available
- Appreciate the effort needed to reach a successful outcome for this condition
I feel fine! – THR with post-operative femoral fracture
Most dogs are pain free within the first week of a total hip replacement but still need careful handling for at least the first 8 weeks. With the added complication of a femoral fracture, this session details not only the exercises but also the timeline of managing a fracture and a new hip joint.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand how to manage the ratio between rest and exercise for this condition
- Revise the femoral bone healing process
- Be able to provide a combination of exercises that fatigue the patient’s brain but not their musculoskeletal system
Why is everyone else going out? – SDFT tear
Box rest is critical to the recovery of the equine superficial digital flexor tendon tear and usually results in global muscle atrophy. Alongside of this can be boredom, muscle contractures and weight gain. Whilst the horse cannot move out of the stable, it can do exercises in the box which will minimise the problems. This session takes you through the exercise programmes available which result in a well-muscled and calmer horse once they are able to start their dynamic rehabilitation.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand how appropriate exercise affects muscle physiology
- Revise the SDFT tear healing process
- Be able to develop a programme over a 3 to 12 month period
The price includes all 3 sessions, notes and quiz – 8 hours of CPD
