- Understand the pharmacological considerations encountered by foals undergoing sedation and general anaesthesia
- Develop an analgesia plan for foals undergoing various procedures
- Design and develop an anaesthetic management plan for foals including optimising the use of monitoring equipment and being prepared for intra-operative complications
Anaesthetising horses with colic. Anaesthesia and analgesia management of the horse with colic
This session will cover the anaesthetic and analgesic considerations for horses undergoing emergency colic surgery. The session will include common intra-operative challenges and how to manage them, fluid therapy and acid base, electrolyte and blood gas abnormalities.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand the physiological and pharmacological considerations specific to anaesthetising horses with colic, including horses that are systemically compromised
- Learn about the most common intra-operative complications which may be encountered when anaesthetising horses for colic surgery and how to manage them
