The search for Truth
This lecture will briefly explore the historical understanding of pain, the evolving picture up to the present day and how the patronage of physiotherapy to medical empiricism has resulted in limitations in the management of persistent pain. - The clinician will gain an understanding of Biomedicalism and its limitations in the management of persistent pain.
- The clinician will be able to identify the need for a shift in reasoning models and the limitations of traditional physiotherapy reasoning models.

Putting it all together
This lecture will consolidate the content of the previous 2 lectures into a case study (NSLBP) demonstrating a clinical reasoned approach to pain management. In addition, this lecture will explore the literature around communication and its effect on reasoning with specific considerations to language, clinician/client behavior and other contextual factors. Finally, it will look to consider the implications on therapeutic relationship and self-determination.
What you’ll learn:
- The clinician will be able to apply a clinical reasoning approach within persistent pain management.
- Functional patterns of movement
- The clinician will be able to demonstrate an understanding of a dynamic reasoning approach to clinical practice.
- The clinician will become familiar with communication literature surrounding patient centered care and self-determination.
